Paly ("we", "our", or "us") operates the Paly mobile application. This page informs you of our policies regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of personal data when you use our app.
Information We Collect
We collect the following types of information:
Account Information: Email address and password (managed by Supabase Auth). Optionally, your full name.
Profile Photo: Only if you choose one. We read the single image you pick from your photo library and store it; we never access the rest of your library, and you can remove the photo at any time from Settings > Account.
Class & Study Data: Class schedules, notes you create, uploaded documents (PDFs, DOCX, PPTX, text files), AI-synthesized study content, quiz attempts, and study prompts.
Phone Number: Only recorded if you text us first. To receive Paly Pro study texts you send us a message containing your account's link code; we store the number that message came from so we can deliver to it via SendBlue. You can stop at any time by replying STOP, and we never obtain your number any other way.
Device Information: Push notification tokens for delivering in-app notifications. We collect your device platform (iOS/Android) for notification delivery.
Subscription Information: Whether you are on Paly Pro, and the purchase and renewal history behind it, recorded through Apple's In-App Purchase system and RevenueCat. Payment is handled entirely by Apple — your card details never reach us.
Usage Data: Reading streaks, Paly Points, prompt read status, and quiz completion data to personalize your study experience.
How We Use Your Information
To provide and maintain the Paly study companion service
To generate AI-powered study materials from your notes and uploads using Anthropic (Claude), and to answer questions you text to your companion, which are sent to Anthropic along with the study material they relate to
To schedule and deliver study prompts via push notifications and/or SMS
To track your study progress, streaks, and quiz performance
To send you service-related communications
Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services:
Supabase: Database hosting and authentication
Anthropic: AI-powered content synthesis (your notes and uploads are sent to Anthropic's Claude API for processing)
SendBlue: SMS/iMessage delivery for study reminders (only if you opt in)
RevenueCat: Subscription and purchase management for Paly Pro
Expo: Push notification delivery
Data Storage & Security
Your data is stored securely in Supabase (hosted on AWS). We use row-level security policies to ensure users can only access their own data. Authentication tokens are stored securely on your device.
AI-Generated Content
When you upload documents or create notes, this content may be sent to Anthropic's Claude API to generate study materials (summaries, flashcards, quiz questions, and daily study chunks), and to answer questions you text your companion. Anthropic processes this data as a service provider and does not use it to train its models. See Anthropic's privacy policy.
Your Rights
You have the right to:
Access your personal data through the app
Update or correct your information via Settings > Account
Delete your account and all associated data via Settings > Account > Delete Account
Opt out of study texts at any time by replying STOP to any Paly message, or via Settings > Notifications
Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, all associated data is permanently removed from our systems.
Children's Privacy
Paly is designed for students aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected data from a child under 13, please contact us immediately.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new policy in the app and updating the "Last updated" date.
